The POAM III instrument : Polar Ozone and Aerosol Measurement III

Overview
The POAM 3 instrument was developed by the American Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) to measure the vertical distribution in the atmosphere of ozone, water vapour and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), as well as extinction due to aerosols and temperature. It was installed on the SPOT 4 satellite launched in March 1998 and stopped its activity on May 1, 2006. It was a visible/IR spectrometer making its observations through the Earths atmosphere by means of the solar occultation technique.

Product information

Two types of POAM III data are available through Ether from 1998-04-22 to 2005-12-05 ; those related to the official data products from the NRL (level 2 vertical profiles) and ancillary data concerning temperature, pressure and potential vorticity..

Data available from Ether

Two sets of data can be accessed: level 2 vertical profile data (POAMIII) and ancillary data concerning temperature, pressure and potential vorticity (POAMIII.CORR).
The access to POAMIII data is restricted. Please, click on "Login Request" (at the bottom of this page) if you wish to obtain these data.
